Your therapy journey

Initial consultation

I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation to introduce myself and give you the chance to ask any questions you may have about the therapy I offer. This gives you the opportunity to see if I might be the therapist for you. I will send you our therapy contract to read and sign. You can also find the therapy contract here. If you decide to go ahead, we arrange our initial session which will involve an in depth assessment so I can get a good understanding of what is going on for you.

Therapy sessions

Sessions tend to be weekly or bi-weekly, dependent on your needs and goals. Each session lasts for 50-60 minutes.

My availability

I am available to provide online therapy sessions via Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

The location of face-to-face sessions are to be confirmed.

Please contact me to discuss availability. I am currently on maternity leave but I am due to have some availability in the coming months.

Who I can help

I help people experiencing psychological distress. I specialize in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) which is an evidence-based approach recommended by NICE guidelines.

Don’t worry if you’re not sure what the problem is for you. We can figure that out together. Here are some of the symptoms that show up for people:

  • Hypervigilance, feeling on edge, unable to relax

  • Self-doubt

  • Tearfulness and feeling sad

  • Poor sleep and/or appetite

  • Excessive worrying and/or rumination

  • Loneliness or feeling disconnected from others

  • Feeling guilty

  • Self-critical thoughts

Common problems I help with

Women’s health, including perinatal difficulties

I have professional and personal experience of perinatal mental health difficulties and offer clients the safe, non-judgemental space I understand they need to feel seen and understood.

The perinatal journey, particularly postpartum, is such a vulnerable time for women. Perhaps you feel lonely, isolated and no longer like yourself. Perhaps you’ve had a difficult fertility, pregnancy, birth or postnatal experience. I will meet you with a compassionate and nurturing approach.

I have a special interest in hormones and how these can affect women across different life stages including postpartum, premenstrual (PMS, PMDD), and peri-/menopause.

Post-traumatic stress disorder and trauma

There are lots of different kinds of traumatic events that can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder. Some examples include (but are not limited to): abuse, assault, life-threatening illness or injury, adverse perinatal experiences, military combat, and witnessing harm of others. I can help you process trauma using evidence-based trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (as recommended by NICE guidelines) and a gentle, compassion-focused approach.

Low mood, stress, burn-out and depression

Our mood can be affected by lots of different life events including bereavement and loss, stressful life events, medical conditions, and past trauma. Sometimes we’re not sure what has caused us to feel so low. We can figure it out together. I can help you find balance and reduce burn-out and emotional overwhelm. Together we can find a way for you to build a rewarding and fulfilling life.

Low self-esteem

You might feel plagued by self-critical thoughts and lack confidence in your abilities. Or find it difficult to make decisions or be assertive. Perhaps you often ‘people please’ to avoid conflict or upsetting anyone. I can help you become more compassionate towards yourself and see your self-worth.

Anxiety disorders

You might feel preoccupied and consumed by anxious and overwhelming thoughts. Perhaps your worries are excessive and relate to your health, social situations, or something specific. Or perhaps it feels like you worry about anything and everything. You might have some compulsive behaviours or intrusive thoughts. I can help treat anxiety conditions like phobias, social anxiety, health anxiety, generalized anxiety, body dysmorphic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder.
